After getting the Venipede to calm down enough that he could get up, Kitsune got up, grabbing his Badge, and, Snivy in his hood, Venipede on his back, and Zorua in his arms, walked out the door of the Gym. As soon as he left the Gym, however, his Xtransceiver began ringing. He answered it, and saw that it was Bianca. "Hey there!" she said. "Where are you now?"

"I'm outside the Castelia City Gym." he answered. "I just finished beating the Gym Leader. Why?"

"Could you do me a favor? Let's have a Pokémon battle! Iris has trained me, and I've become a little stronger. I should be able to protect my own Pokémon now."

"Fine, fine." he said. "Won't be very good training, but… Where at?"

"The gate to Route 4!" Bianca answered. "See you there!"

"Bi, I don't think-" Kitsune began, but his friend hung up. "Route 4… I hate that place. Guess we have no choice, though. We have to go through there to get to the next Gym. Let's go." he said, heading north toward Route 4.

He entered the gate at Castelia City's northern terminus, where he saw his friend waiting. "Heeey, Kitsune!" she called out. "You remember the promise you made on the Xtransceiver, right?"

"It wasn't actually a promise…" Kitsune said.

"Let's get right to it! They said we can have a battle in the gate, as long as we don't break the electric bulletin board. That would be bad."

"…For that, I am thankful." he said, not wanting to have to put his Venipede through the torture of using Protect for a whole battle. "Let's get this started. Venipede!" he said, and the Pokémon climbed up to his shoulder and jumped to the ground.

"Looks like you've got a new Pokémon! Go, Herdier!" Bianca shouted, sending out her Pokémon.

"Venipede, Poison Tail!" Kitsune ordered, and Venipede swung his tail at his opponent.

"Herdier, Odor Sleuth!" Bianca called, and the Herdier locked on to the Venipede's scent. "So, what gender is this little one?"

"Let's just say, your Herdier's lucky he doesn't know Attract. Venipede, Poison Tail again!" he commanded, and the Venipede executed the move again. The move hit his opponent's weak spot, and knocked her out.

"That doesn't clear things up at all!" Bianca shouted, returning her Pokémon to her Poké Ball. "Munna, go!"

"You're so slow, Bi." Kitsune said. "Venipede, Bug Bite!" he called, and the Venipede executed the move, biting his opponent again and again until it fell, defeated. "Next!"

"Dewott, your turn!" Bianca shouted, sending her next Pokémon onto the battlefield.

"Snivy," Kitsune said to the Pokémon in his hood, "ready to go in?" Snivy nodded and jumped into battle, while Venipede ran back beside his Trainer. "Leaf Tornado!" he called, and the Snivy spun up a whirlwind of leaves, which picked up the Dewott and hurled it against the wall right next to the electric bulletin board.

Snivy's attack did a lot of damage to the Water-type, who had trouble getting up afterward. Still, it managed to get up, and follow Bianca's command to use Water Sport. "Water Sport?" Kitsune asked. "Why use an attack like that? Snivy, Leaf Tornado!" he commanded, but, unfortunately, the attack missed. Bianca used a Super Potion on her Pokémon, further compounding Kitsune's problems. "Great. Snivy, Leaf Tornado again!" This time, the attack hit the Dewott, knocking it out when it slammed into the wall, this time the one opposite the bulletin board.

"Aww…" Bianca said. "…Oh! That's right! I still have one more Pokémon! Go, Pansear!" she called, and her Pokémon emerged directly in front of Snivy.

"Venipede, Rollout!" Kitsune called, and the Bug rolled toward the fire monkey as Snivy jumped up, spun in midair, and landed in her Trainer's hood. The attack hit the Fire-type, doing a fair bit of damage to the Fire-type.

"Oh, no!" Bianca exclaimed. "Pansear, use Yawn!" The Pansear Yawned, forming a bubble that floated toward Venipede, then popped when he rolled into it. He rolled into the Pansear, sending it flying into the wall, right next to the exit door to Route 4. "Aww… Even after all that training, I still couldn't win…" Bianca said. "I'll probably never be as strong as you… But… Since leaving Nuvema Town, I've met a lot of people and I've been thinking about what I want to do with my life! Pokémon have given me a lot of new experiences. Having my Pokémon stolen was really hard, and I wasn't sure… Still, I'm really glad I went! I've learned so much on this journey, like that being with Pokémon is really, really important! Well, I hope to see you again soon! Bye-bye, Kitsune!" she ended, running out the door to Castelia City.

Unfortunately, Venipede chose that time to go to sleep, due to the delay of the Yawn move. Unfortunate because, now that he's asleep, he can't prevent his evolution. He began to glow white, changing shape into a Whirlipede. Panicking, Kitsune quickly recalled his Pokémon to his Poké Ball. "Not good." he said. "We can't proceed until this problem is solved. Perhaps the Pokémon Center…" he said, and he rushed back to the city, rushing to the Pokémon Center. When he reached it, he calmly entered the door to the Pokémon Center and asked the nurse, "Excuse me. Do you have any way to prevent the evolution of a Sleeping Pokémon?"

"Yes, we do." the nurse answered. "It's called an Everstone. Why? Your Venipede having problems?"

"Yes." Kitsune said, handing his Venipede's Poké Ball to the nurse. "Could you help him for me, please?"

"No problem." the nurse replied, taking the Poké Ball to the back room. A short while later, she returned, Poké Ball in hand. "We successfully managed to stop your Venipede's evolution, and heal him to perfect health. We hope to see you again!"

"You'll probably see a lot of me, for a while." Kitsune muttered. "Route 4, here I come…"
